The Elgin Valley Railway Wine Festival takes place from 24–27 April 2026 in the Elgin Valley. The vibrant Elgin Railway Market hosts the festival and brings together Elgin wines, local food, live entertainment, and rail travel.
On Saturday, 25 April, and Sunday, 26 April, the Elgin Railway Market hosts 12 wine producers from Elgin and Bot River. Visitors can taste a selection of world-class Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah wines, along with other surprises, all under one roof. Guests can engage with the producers, enjoy familiar favourites, taste newly released vintages, and discover new wines to add to their cellar.
Along the railway tracks, the historic Elgin Railway Market becomes a destination for wine enthusiasts. Wines on offer include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Malbec, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc. Each wine reflects its own personality, driven by nature and crafted by talented winemakers. Visitors can sample a diverse range of wines while enjoying the vibrant market atmosphere.
Ceres Rail Company will bring guests from Cape Town on Friday, 24 April, and return them on Monday, 27 April. This schedule allows visitors to spend three nights in the valley and enjoy the festival at a relaxed pace. The train will also bring passengers from Bot River to the market, with two trips on Saturday and two on Sunday, making attendance convenient for all.
A goods van will run with the train all weekend, allowing passengers to bring bicycles. Visitors can also take a one-way train ride to Bot River and cycle back through the valley, stopping at Paul Cluver Wine Estate for pizza along the way.
A cycling event will take place on Sunday, 26 April. Participants board the train at the market at 11:00 with their bicycles. The train carries them to Bot River, where they cycle back through the valley, enjoying the scenery. Tickets cost R350 per person, excluding pizza. Book early because spaces are limited, so reserve directly with Ceres Rail at bookings@ceresrail.co.za.
