The countdown has begun for Pathfinders 4.0, the exciting team-based navigation and adventure riding event presented by Trax & Trails. Taking place at the beautiful Elgin Grabouw Country Club, just a short drive from Cape Town, this unique event brings together riders of all ages and skill levels for a weekend of teamwork, navigation, endurance and outdoor adventure.
With entries limited to 150 teams, riders are encouraged to secure their spot early to avoid disappointment.

What Is Pathfinders 4.0?
Pathfinders is a team-based navigation event where riders work together to complete GPS-guided routes through diverse terrain. Unlike traditional races, success depends on teamwork, navigation skills, preparation, and strategy as much as riding ability.
Each team consists of two riders, and every route is approximately 50km per loop, with completion times ranging from 4 to 8 hours depending on the chosen category and riding conditions.
Along the routes, teams can expect:
- GPS-guided navigation
- 1–2 Designated Service Points (DSPs)
- Scenic and challenging terrain
- Supportive event atmosphere
- Spectator-friendly viewing opportunities
Event Schedule
Friday, 23 October 2026: Optional Time Trial
Participants can take part in a time trial that will determine the starting order for the main event.
Saturday, 24 October 2026: Main Event Day
Teams head out on their chosen routes to test their navigation skills, endurance, teamwork, and determination.

Pathfinders 4.0 offers four route categories designed for different age groups and experience levels.
Bronze Route – Baboon Troop
Team Size: 2 Riders
Perfect for younger riders entering the world of navigation events.
Requirements:
- Open to riders from the year of their 10th birthday and older
- Any capacity motorcycle
- Minimum motorcycle size:
- 85cc 2-stroke big wheel
- 150cc 4-stroke
- Riders under 16 must team up with a chaperone aged 18 or older
Silver Route – Klipspringer Tribe
Team Size: 2 Riders
An exciting step up in challenge and navigation complexity.
Requirements:
- Open to riders from the year of their 13th birthday and older
- Any capacity motorcycle
- Minimum motorcycle size:
- 85cc 2-stroke big wheel
- 150cc 4-stroke
- Riders under 16 must team up with a chaperone aged 18 or older
Gold Route – Caracul Cubs
Team Size: 2 Riders
Designed for more experienced riders looking for a demanding day on the trails.
Requirements:
- Open to riders from the year of their 15th birthday and older
- Any capacity motorcycle
- Minimum motorcycle size: 125cc
- Riders under 16 must team up with a chaperone aged 18 or older
Gold X Route – Cape Leopards
Team Size: 2 Riders
The ultimate Pathfinders challenge.
Requirements:
- Open to riders from the year of their 16th birthday and older
- Any capacity motorcycle
- Minimum motorcycle size: 125cc
- Entries subject to approval and vetting by event organisers
Essential Event Requirements
To ensure safety and navigation accuracy, all teams must comply with the following:
GPS Navigation
Every team must carry at least:
- 1 GPS unit
- Example: Garmin eTrex or similar navigation device
Motorcycle Compliance
All motorcycles must be fully compliant with event regulations and safety requirements.
Rope Requirement
Every team competing in:
- Silver
- Gold
- Gold X
must carry a 5-metre rope throughout the event.
Bring the Support Crew
One of the standout features of Pathfinders 4.0 is its spectator-friendly format.
Family members, friends, and support crews are encouraged to attend and enjoy the event atmosphere.
Spectator Vehicles
- 4×4 spectator vehicle access available
- Cost: R150 per vehicle
This allows supporters to access designated viewing areas and follow the action throughout the day.
