The FNB Wines2Whales 2025 returns from 31 October to 9 November, bringing nine days of world-class mountain biking through the Western Cape. Launched in 2009, this three-day stage race has grown into one of South Africa’s most iconic cycling events. Riders from across the globe come to experience the region’s landscapes, hospitality, and that unmistakable South African “gees.”
🌊 From Benguela Cove to Lourensford
This year’s race flips the script with the exciting Switchback Route.
Starting at Benguela Cove and ending at Lourensford Wine Estate, it’s 191 kilometres of pure Overberg adventure.
Expect a mix of flowing singletrack, thrilling climbs, and postcard-perfect scenery between coast and vineyards. Each stage brings something unique — from coastal trails to forest tracks and legendary mountain passes.
Stage Overview:
- Stage 1: Benguela Cove → Oak Valley Estate | 61 km | 1150 m climb
- Stage 2: Oak Valley Estate → Oak Valley Estate | 67 km | 1350 m climb
- Stage 3: Oak Valley Estate → Lourensford Estate | 63 km | 1250 m climb
The route blends new sections with classic favourites like Gantouw Pass, ensuring every rider earns their finisher’s medal with a smile.
🍇 Three Events, One Spirit
Wines2Whales is about more than competition — it’s about camaraderie, laughter, and a shared love of the ride.

The Chardonnay: Women Take the Lead
From 31 October to 2 November, the Chardonnay celebrates women in mountain biking.
Elite and age-group riders chase the coveted CIOVITA leader’s jerseys and prize money on South Africa’s premier trails. Men and mixed teams also join in for an early taste of the action and a relaxed weekend of fun.
The Pinotage: Midweek Adventure
The Pinotage runs from 3 to 5 November and brings a more laid-back spirit.
It’s ideal for first-timers or those wanting a midweek escape through the Elgin Valley’s famous forests.
The event also features the E-Bike Race and Tour, giving riders of all abilities the chance to experience Wines2Whales magic with a little extra power assist.
The Shiraz: The Grand Finale
The Shiraz, from 7 to 9 November, wraps up the festival in high gear.
Elite men, mixed, and Exxaro Jersey teams take centre stage as the competition heats up.
